Asphalt Paving & Driveway FAQ
What areas do you serve?
Precision Asphalt is based in Elkmont, Alabama, and provides asphalt paving and maintenance services throughout North Alabama — including Huntsville, Athens, Decatur, Madison, Limestone County, Madison County, and surrounding communities.
What types of asphalt paving projects do you handle?
We install and repair residential driveways, farm lanes, subdivision roads, church parking lots, retail and office parking lots, industrial sites, and other commercial properties. Whether you need a brand-new asphalt surface or resurfacing over an existing one, we can recommend the best option for your site and traffic needs.
How long does a typical driveway or parking lot project take?
Every project is a little different, but most residential driveways can be completed in one day once the base is prepared. Larger commercial lots, subdivisions, or multi-phase projects may take several days. We’ll walk you through the schedule during your free estimate so you know exactly what to expect.
How long will my new asphalt surface last?
With proper installation and routine maintenance, a quality asphalt driveway or parking lot in North Alabama can last 15–25 years or more. Lifespan depends on factors like traffic load, weather exposure, base preparation, drainage, and how well the surface is maintained over time.
How soon can I drive or park on new asphalt?
In most cases, you can walk on new asphalt within a few hours, but we typically recommend waiting 24–48 hours before driving on a new residential driveway and a few days before allowing heavy truck traffic on commercial lots. Hot summer temperatures may require a slightly longer cure time. We’ll give you specific instructions for your project before we leave the job site.
Sealcoating & Maintenance FAQ
Why is sealcoating important?
Sealcoating helps protect asphalt from UV rays, water, oil, and everyday wear. It slows down oxidation, reduces the risk of cracks and raveling, and keeps the surface looking dark and fresh. Regular sealcoating can significantly extend the life of your driveway or parking lot and save money on major repairs in the long run.
How often should I have my asphalt sealed?
In our North Alabama climate, most residential driveways benefit from sealcoating every 3–4 years. Commercial lots with heavier traffic or more exposure may need it more often. We’ll evaluate the condition of your pavement and recommend a maintenance schedule that makes sense for your property.
What’s the difference between crack filling and resurfacing?
Crack filling targets specific cracks with a flexible material to keep water out of the base. It’s a maintenance step that helps prevent small problems from becoming big ones. Resurfacing (also called an overlay) adds a new layer of asphalt over the existing surface to restore appearance and ride quality. During your estimate, we’ll let you know whether repair, resurfacing, or full replacement is the best choice for your pavement.
Line Striping, Scheduling & Estimates
Do you offer parking lot line striping and markings?
Yes. We provide line striping, re-striping, and layout for parking lots, drive lanes, handicap spaces, fire lanes, loading zones, and other pavement markings. Clear, bright striping helps improve safety, traffic flow, and the overall look of your property.
What should I do to prepare for my paving or sealcoating project?
We ask that you move vehicles, trailers, and any portable equipment off the work area before we arrive. If we’re working at a business, it’s helpful to notify employees and customers about temporary closures or alternate parking. We’ll handle the rest — including barricades, cones, and signage as needed.
Do weather conditions affect scheduling?
Yes. Asphalt paving and sealcoating both require dry conditions and suitable temperatures. If heavy rain or extreme weather is in the forecast, we may recommend rescheduling to protect the quality of your finished surface. We’ll stay in touch with you if the forecast changes and work to find a convenient backup date.
